Working for YOU with YOU

Liberal Democrats believe in building a fair, free and open society.

The Liberal Democrats are crucial to keeping a balance between safeguarding our community and protecting the rights of individuals in Redbridge.

The Liberal Democrats have not been afraid to oppose the Government and stand up for ordinary people, on issues such as Iraq, identity cards, tuition fees and care of the elderly.

IN REDBRIDGE OUR PRIORITIES ARE: -

Cutting Local Crime

• Provide an access point for the dedicated Police teams in each ward

• Extend CCTV coverage in key areas

• Increase availability of community work for offenders

• More support for Youth Offending Team

• Speed up the replacement of out of date street lighting

Reduce Anti-Social Behaviour

• Use Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and Anti Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) more effectively

• Boost the Council's Youth Team

• Strengthen enforcement of licensing laws and conditions within the Borough

Cleaner and Greener

• Improve street cleaning, speed up graffiti removal across the Borough and expand the Council's graffiti cleaning service to commercial premises

• Increase recycling facilities and have all-year-round green waste recycling

• Extend planting of street trees and shrubs

• More efficient use of traffic wardens to keep traffic moving in Redbridge

The Best for our Children

• Continue to invest in and support our excellent schools

• Plan now to provide sufficient school places for all new residential developments in the Borough

• Involve young people in shaping the future of Redbridge

• Use the opportunity of the 2012 Olympics to improve sports facilities in our schools and community sports facilities

Make Local Decisions Count

• Increase the power of Area Committees so that local people are more involved in decision making

• Open up the Council - no more secret, behind-the- scenes Cabinet meetings

• Make Council scrutiny committees more powerful and independent, to improve Health, Social Care and other local services

• Ensure major changes of Council policy are properly scrutinised before they are implemented

CONTROL COUNCIL TAX

• Give real value for money from Council services

• End constant re-structuring which increases costs and bureaucracy

• Minimise the use and cost of external consultants
