London Assembly Liberal Democrats today criticised the Mayor's announcement to set up a £24 million waste and recycling programme with the London Development Agency. His proposals rival the new Government-funded London Waste and Recycling Board, which will perform many of the same functions.

Commenting on the news that London Underground workers voted to strike over safety and ticket office closures, Geoff Pope, Transport Spokesman for the London Assembly Liberal Democrats said:

The Mayor of London admitted that 'we have failed on housing targets' under questioning from the London Assembly Liberal Democrats today.

The Mayor will not achieve the 1000 police as promised in his budget as the Home Office has refused funding for almost a third of this number, it was revealed today by the London Assembly Liberal Democrats.

Liberal Democrat Geoff Pope convinced all members of the London Assembly Transport Committee to write to the Secretary of State for Transport this week, to show support for the final stage of London's Orbital Railway.
